Missouri River - Between Pierre and Mobridge, SD. On September 25, 1804, the Corps met the Teton Sioux, who always demanded "payment" from fur trappers going through their territory. Communication was difficult and tense moments ensued, but the meeting ended with a celebration of friendship. Further upriver, the party met the amiable Arikara Indians, and saw their first bull boat.
